This year the event will be marked by two anniversaries − the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 180th anniversary of the birth of the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovskiy, whose music will be the leitmotif at the seventh Ball.
According to the organizers, this is the only ball in which representatives of all the country's navy − the Black Sea, Pacific, Baltic, Northern Fleets, and also the Caspian flotilla, will take part. More than 1,000 people annually take part in this large-scale event − officers and civilian dance couples from all over Russia and all spheres of activity, of different ages.
Not only couples from Russia, but also representatives of foreign countries will be honored to dance the polonaise, quadrille and the Sevastopol waltz in the square of the heroic fortress: representatives of the military-diplomatic corps of foreign countries are invited as guests of honor.
"The ball in Sevastopol is a matter of honor, and all preparations are dedicated to ensuring that people get the right and the opportunity to represent the face of the city. Sevastopol deserves the most beautiful ball as a reward for its heroic history", — the project manager Yekaterina Grafodatskaya said.
A very busy dance program is expected, as always. Along with classical ballroom dances, modern compositions will also be performed, gifts and surprises dances wait for the guests. Couples will enter the parquet to the tunes of not only Tchaikovskiy, but also Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Rossini and, of course, musical masterpieces of the World War II years.
At the same time traditionally the world's only Military Ballroom Parade will take place − a welcoming ceremony of the military and civil society in the style of ballroom dancing.
"This year, military and civilian dance pairs in one ballroom formation symbolize how once, without dividing into military and civilians, nationalities, estates and professions, in a single combat formation, they forged the Great Victory", — the organizers explained.
A lot of unforgettable impressions, according to them, are prepared for the gala concert of the ball: parade of military brass bands, performances by the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Black Sea Fleet, soloists of the Helikon Opera, the Crimean State Philharmonic Society, the Bolshoi Theater, children's ballet.
At the same time, anyone can take part in the event: the best choreographers of the project are ready to teach basic dance skills. Submitting of applications for participation is already open. More information about the terms of participation can be found on the project website.
The Great Sevastopol Ball is the country's main officer's ball. It first took place on June 2, 2013. The project is based on the image of a Russian officer as a historical bearer of nobility, honor and dignity in order to revive these values in modern society. Particular attention is paid to charity. The beneficiaries of the charitable program will be gifted children of Sevastopol and Crimea from the large and low-income families, including children with disabilities, and veteran organizations.
