Inhabitants and guests of Kerch were presented with a new excursion route in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Crimean campaign under the command of General-en-Chef Prince Dolgorukov-Krymskiy. This was reported by the press service of the city administration.
The author's excursion was developed by the tourism department of the Kerch administration.
So, the excursion started in the square near the seaport with the monuments related to the history of Russian Kerch. These are monuments to Prince Gleb, Abbot Nikon and the outstanding Russian naval commander Fyodor Ushakov, the bow cross in memory of the exodus of the Russian army in 1920, the memorial sign in honor of Peter I stay in Kerch in 1699.
Then the excursionists walked through the Reunion Square and the central square, where they heard interesting and not widely known facts from the past of Kerch. The route ended at the Yenikale fortress − a key landmark, its walls remember the events of the Crimean campaign of 1771.
"On July 10, 1771, the Crimean campaign of the Russian army under the command of Prince Dolgorukov, who, in memory of his brilliant campaign, was granted the honorary title Prince Dolgorukov-Krymskiy (of Crimea), triumphantly ended. On this day, Russian soldiers took Kafa − the main Ottoman fortress in Crimea. The victorious Crimean campaign of the Russian army during the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774 marked the beginning of the transition of Crimea under the protectorate of the Russian Empire," the administration's press service summed up.
