Artek, the International Children's Center, celebrates its 96th anniversary. The celebration "Artek is the eighth wonder of the world" became the central event of the seventh shift. The shift accounts for more than 2,500 children from all Russian regions that spent their holidays in Artek.
"Through the decades Artek has preserved the principle "Children Rule Here", increased and developed it. It allows children to learn how to make their choice, to become bolder, more confident, helps to immerse themselves in the diversity of the modern world and our multiethnic country. Through the history of Artek children learn to understand the history of Russia, and the friendship of children from different regions opens up their homeland in a completely new aspect. 96 years is a significant age by human standards, but Artek is always young and full of energy," the Director of the children's center Konstantin Fedorenko said.
Traditionally, Artek's birthday began with ceremonies in all its children's camps. Also, the Artek dwellers gathered in the Morskoy camp − the historic place where the Land of Childhood legendary history began. It was here on June 16, 1925 that Artek, the All-Union health camp for young pioneers was opened. During the ceremony of the holiday opening, the flags of Russia, Crimea and Artek were raised on the flagpoles. And the Chersonesos, three-mast frigate, entered the Artek bay under scarlet sails – as a symbol of a dream that has come true.
The whole day Artek residents received congratulations from friends of the children's center from all over Russia and other countries. At the festive line-up children were presented with greeting postcards from the Russian Post, specially issued for the memorable date. Also, the shift’s children prepared a gift for their beloved Artek − they created a scale model of the children's center from plasticine: it shows the buildings of children's camps, spacious campfires, historical monuments, sports grounds and flowering parks. It took more than 200 kilograms of plasticine to make it. During the shift, everyone will be able to make add-ons to the miniature.
The day ended at the central stadium with a festive program with a premiere show of ‘The Artek. Big Adventure’ feature film. The filming was carried out on the territory of the International Children's Center. More than 1,500 children took part in it − Artek residents of the 5th shift in 2019 and schoolchildren from Greater Yalta. The actors Mikhail Galustyan, Sergei Bezrukov, Yan Tsapnik, Lyudmila Artemieva, Ekaterina Klimova and others starred in the film.
