The official ceremony was also attended by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, Energy Minister Alexander Novak, the head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov and Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov.

The first energy units of the two power stations were launched back in October.

The event marks the start of Putin's visit to the peninsula. Later, the president is expected to meet with civil society representatives of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and attend the festivities celebrating the fifth anniversary of the peninsula's reunification with Russia after the 2014 referendum.
