The Chaliapin Grotto is located on the territory of the Novy Svet reserve. It is a natural grotto on Mount Koba-Kaya and was created by the wave action of the sea. It is 25-30 m high and about 17 m wide. There was a monastery in this site in the Middle Ages. The grotto has a freshwater spring. Its excellent acoustics prompted Prince Leo Golitsyn to build a music hall here in the late 19th century. Fyodor Chaliapin is said to have performed there.
