The nature reserve is located on Cape Kazantip in the northeastern part of the Kerch Peninsula and faces the Azov Sea. Created in 1998, it covers an area of slightly over 450 hectares. It is known for its rich variety of wild flowers, grasses and herbs. It is also a habitat for 188 species of the vertebrata and over 450 species of invertebrate animals, including rare ones. Another attraction at the nature reserve is the site of the ancient settlement of Heraclius dating back to the 3rd-2nd centuries BC.
