Located just off the coast by the Kara-Dag volcanic mountain range next to Razboinichya Bay, the Golden Gate stands 8 m above sea level and is 6 m wide; the sea in the area is 15 m deep. A natural arch cuts through the basalt cliff covered with yellow lichen. The sunrise can be seen through the Golden Gate arch for several days each year during the winter solstice.
