The Bakal Spit separates the Black Sea (Karkinit Bay) and Lake Bakal from Peschany Cape to the village of Steregushcheye. The spit is the result of many years of storm waves and harsh winds that created a natural sand dam. Its sloping coast has been a popular beach since the 19th century.
