The canyon is located in the Crimean Mountains, 5 km southeast of the Sokolinoye village, Bakhchisaray District. It was created by a tectonic fault of the Crimean Mountains: a giant crack between Ai-Petri and the Sedam-Kaya and Boika ridges. It is over 3,500 m long, with the surrounding cliffs reaching 320 m in height. The canyon is famous for its picturesque waterfalls, cataracts and monumental marbled lime rocks. It is a federal landscape nature sanctuary.
