The remains of the ancient settlement lay on the shore of the sea bay in the territory of the City of Kerch. It is located on a high plateau and has the shape of an irregular quadrangle with its acute angle pointing to the south. The first settlement at this place appeared in the second quarter of the 6th century BC. The destruction of Tiritaka dates back to the 7-8th centuries when it was raided by Göktürks (ancient Turks). The first excavations in this area were carried out in 1859.
