Sapun Gora is an 8 km long ridge in the Crimean Mountains located 12 km from the city centre. During World War II, it was a key defence point at the entrance to Sevastopol. Today there is a park, obelisks and memorial plaques with the names of heroes who took part in the liberation of the city. The museum with the Assault on Sapun Gora diorama is located in a separate building. The open-air exhibition features military equipment and armaments dating back to World War II and trophy Nazi artillery.
