This monument to the defenders of Sevastopol during World War II was unveiled in 1967. At first, there were 19 granite tiles with the names of naval and military units and city organisations that defended the city. Later, seven more tiles bearing the names of heroes of the Soviet Union were added, and a massive bas-relief with a warrior facing his enemy was constructed, with three bayonets symbolising three Nazi assaults on the city.
